Leicester Mixed Martial Arts Academy is the home of the Leicester Shootfighters (LSF) team. LSF is Leicestershire’s oldest and most accomplished MMA and Submission Wrestling team and one of the UK’s longest running MMA clubs headed by Nathan ‘Levo’ Leverton.[/aside] [six_columns] Hot on the heels of Fusion Fighting Championships event on Saturday 8th September, I drove late into the night to get up to Leicester Shootfighters for early Sunday morning to help them out at their autumn inter-club grappling competition.
I started training at LSF over 4 years ago when I was attending University in Leicester for my postgraduate degree in Architecture. Since then I have always maintained strong links with the club and will travel up to support their events as often as I can.
After I gained some experience refereeing no-gi BJJ and sub grappling competitions around the country (and of course running my own competition: GoToTheGround) I started refereeing all of the LSF inter-club competitions (I’ll even occasionally jump in and compete myself).
[/six_columns] [eight_columns] These events are always a lot of fun and it’s great to catch up with everyone. Some wicked matches on display as I’ve come to expect. Special mentions to my nemesis JD Hylton who walked through the -93Kg category, Nathan Matts who made the cut to -70Kg and took silver and now in separate categories: Ranjeet Baria & Liam Corrigan who both looked devastating as always on their way to gold medals in the -70Kg and -77Kg categories respectively. Also worth noting some insanely good Greco on display from Lukas who scored 2 huge throws in his opening matches including a mean lateral drop and a slam that saw his opponent completely inverted pile-driver style!
The competition summary can be seen on the LSF website: (Click here for LSFs news page)
