Wrapping Up CWFC 66

It’s always fun when Cage Warriors travels to a new territory, event the bizarre places we’ve been like Chechnya! Scandinavia appears to be the main new target for expansion this year and Copenhagen, Denmark is the first show for the promotion in the region.

A lot of very solid ‘local’ fighters were on the card and after Cathal Pendred stepped down to compete on the latest season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, a new welterweight champion was going to be crowned.

It was a very special evening. Fights on Cage Warriors are always well matched and action packed but CWFC66 was one of those evenings that took it up a notch!

The Scandinavian fighters really banded together and prevailed in every main card fight, taking down some big scalps along the way. With Martin Svensson out pointing Robbie Olivier to kick off the main card, Jack Hermansson thumping Enoc Solves Torres, Toni Tauru submitting Martin Akhtar and Mohsen Bahari out working Bruno Carvalho. A further huge upset in Damir Hadzovic who blasted John Maguire in the first round handing him his first proper TKO loss. Main event needed four rounds to reach a conclusion and it was the local fighter Nicolas Dalby who landed a great Brazilian kick on Sergei Churilove to solidify himself as the new WW champion.

I asked him post-fight what it felt like to have the belt and he simply replied “It’s fucking awesome”. Here’s my reaction…
